I have a weekly game group, and we tend to play games like Avalon, Cosmic Encounter, and Mysterium. This game is quite a bit more silly in nature, and while it may slightly irritate those that prefer rigid mechanics, we've found it to be an immensely enjoyable game, such that we've now played it three weeks in a row.A personal favorite was a card that asked for up to ten answers matching only one other person -- "Things people are scared of." Some of the best responses were sadly not worth any points (because they were so clever that no other person thought of them), but got good laughs (which, in my opinion, are worth more than the points, anyway). It's interesting because when you're trying to match no other players (or even just one other player), you have to decide between picking the obvious answer and hoping everyone else is going with the strategy of avoiding those, or picking obscure answers and hoping no one else (or only one person) picked the same obscure thing. It's great for getting to know people, or for testing yourself to see how well you know your group already.Things people are scared of -- common answers may include "spiders," "the dark," or "self-rocking chairs." The best ones were definitely "dementors" and "fear itself."

As a huge fan of the Listography books (I own them all!), I knew I had to get the game and it did not disappoint!!! We played for hours and hours over Christmas and never got bored. You make lists from 3 to 10; sometimes you try to match one other person, sometimes all the players and lastly you try to match no one else. It's hilarious to see what everyone comes up with!

We are having so much fun with this game. The box it came is a strong, smooth textured box. Happy to know it will secure this amazing game for years to come. This came would make a fantastic family gift for the holidays.

I have played this game with adults, teens and 10-year- olds (some picking and choosing/eliminating of subject cards help the younger players; in each case there was a lot of laughter and competition. I found it so much fun, I have given two as gifts to teens and kids.Everyone makes a list: ex maybe superheoes. and then according to instructions either tries to Not match or to match as many players as possible with their selections. Other pays listen to the choices and often remark on them. "I should have thought of that!" "Good choice." or "That's not a real ______; I call Shenanagans" One person should read the cards and be the judge of acceptance - despite criticism - If you're like our family.

We got this game for our friends game nights. It was a huge hit, they are always asking to come over and play or bring it to the next hang out. We had been playing scategories and the categories were getting boring and repetitive. It was a great change and we are all super competitive so the idea of the board was a fun way to see who was ahead without doing point totals individually!

My family and I LOVE IT! We play so much we actually think we're going to run out of cards soon. Kinda wish there were more cards we could put in it.

Fun game. Nice packaging, easy to play. Some lists seem like they’d be more fun in challenges than the ones given.Be aware if you’re playing with a group that includes kids that some lists can allow players to venture into PG-13 territory. Eg. “places of the body people get pierced, “common plastic surgeries” and others.

Love this game! It is super fun and hilarious. Good for fame friendly fun, or for playing with drinking buddies. I bought this for my mom and am considering getting it for myself. Super fun. Super cute. Buy it.

I use my instant pot all the time and was hoping this would give me some new family favorite keto meals. I am underwhelmed by the directions and ingredients on some of the recipes, it seems as if someone who doesn’t use and understand the instant pot wrote them.Firstly, there are several that are multi step requiring finishing in the oven, or just fussy and unnecessary for the instant pot. Just because you CAN do something in the IP doesn’t mean you SHOULD or that it’s the best way to do it.One recipe that is ridiculous and obvious that it wasn’t tested or well understood is the Chicken Fajita Bowl. This recipe calls for no less than two entire cups of broth in addition to a cup of salsa, along with boneless skinless chicken breast. What this gives you is a giant pot of soupy chicken breast that is vaguely salsa flavored. It’s nothing at all like the recipe photo, and the recipe photo is not possible with those ingredients. That amount of broth, or any amount of broth, is way too much for this type of recipe that’s intended to be a saucy shredded meat at the end, instead of the pot of soup that it yields. Additionally, it’s practically a fat free recipe and very high protein, hardly keto. There are a few others very similarly written.And that leads me to my final criticism, which is the little keto meter is missing from this book. I really appreciate that feature for the recipes in her other two books that I own so I can know when I am making something more or less extra high I fats. This book is conspicuously missing that feature, and I think the reason why is that many of the recipes are void of any significant amount of fat.I’m not saying it’s all bad, there are some promising looking recipes and a few new tricks I might appreciate, but overall I don’t think it delivers what it promises.

Let me preface this with the fact that I own every single cook book that Maria Emmerich has put out. I have found the majority of them to be helpful. This cookbook seems to be more of the same that Maria has put out in previous years. When I say "more of the same" I mean that many of the recipes are for the same dishes that you can find in other cookbooks from Maria. I also mean that She needs to fire her editor! All of her cookbooks have errors in them. From missing cooking times, to missing instructions. I assume that this is to be expected in some regards. Nobody can find all the errors in a book in my humble opinion, but take the two pictures that I have included with this review. One is missing the name of the recipe and the other references a page number that doesn't exist. Had these two discrepancies been unique to Maria's book I would call it an "oops", but this book has many errors in it. I'm beginning to think that Maria is no longer trying the recipes she is putting her name on and instead is just giving her approval "sight unseen". Needless to say I will no longer be purchasing cookbooks by Maria Emmerich. As I previously stated her cookbooks are helpful, all of them, including this one. But I can only have so many cookbooks with a recipe for the same meatballs and I can only spend so much time reading and re-reading a recipe to make sure there isn't any "gotchas" in it. For example, I made the lemon ricotta torte that can be found on page 286 tonight. The recipe states that it requires 30 minutes (for the cake only) of cook time. I finally gave up on the cake being done after cooking the cake for an additional 10 minutes 3 times in a row (so total cook time was 65 minutes). Maybe I did something wrong, I'm not a professional, but evidently, neither is Maria's editor. I have rambled enough......purchase at your own risk.

Really liked this until I actually attempted some recipes - then quickly realized it's a pretty picture book with instructions that don't actually work. For instance: put 1/4 cup of cream in a blender with garlic and puree. Such a little amount doesn't even move the liquid (hell, an immersion blender needs a cup just bigger than the stick to be able to make it work with such a small amount)... So far this book is full of little steps like this that make you have to use alternate methods. Also, some recipes are designed with a 4 qt cooker, while some are for a 6 qt. Do you seriously think people have more than one size instant pot?? Seriously disappointed.

A lot of the five star reviews for this book are from her dedicated followers and subscribers from long before this cookbook was released so please take that into consideration when reading them! This book has multiple errors, at least 32 nutrient amount errors, and the cooking methods are questionable for the IP. Each of he 3 recipes I have made have needed to have work arounds in order to get them to work enough to be edible. If I were not an experienced Instant Pot cook, I wouldn’t have known this! All in all, her other cookbooks may be fantastic but, so far this one is far from it. I’m very surprised she would’ve published it bc The recipes I’ve tried do not work as written.

Pros: I LOVE Maria’s book and have almost all of them! They are beautifully illustrated and give great variety for this WOE. This one inparticular also gives a great instruction portion to using instant type pots and slow cookers, which would be helpful for anyone just getting started with those kitchen tools.Maria has clearly put in the work to knowing how the body should function and it shows in her recipes. I am so glad to have her as a resource and between her blog, FB groups and Books I feel like I can accomplish any goal I set for my nutrition!Cons:It seems like this book has TONS of errors. The nutrition information is important to double check considering we all use different brands and it will naturally vary. If you track very closely I would advise to cross check your macros to make sure you are correct before you sabotage your day! A recipe is missing the title, I know it’s a small thing but text errors get me crazy personally.It also seems like there are several recipes that are already in other books, just put in here for the application of using the instant pot. So I felt like it’s not really getting a book of “ALL NEW” recipes, but a mix of new with older recipes that maybe were tweeked a bit or improved.

I have to admit that none of the First Reads selections particularly stood out to me this month, including this one. It took me two hours to decide, even with the help of other reviews, and I finally "settled" on this book only because in my military days, I ended up visiting the Azores several times. I expected to be mildly entertained at best, so was wonderfully surprised at the read I ended up getting. It was a beautiful book. Slow and relaxing, with vivid description that I found haunting. Such as this passage:"When I finally saw the Azores, they were brilliant green specs in a dark sea, peeking in and out of the mist. No wonder they may have been lost and found a few times."And this one:"Alberto laughed. 'You think the Tenth Island is a place or group of people?' he scoffed. 'The Tenth Island is what you carry inside you. It's what's left when everything else falls away. Those of us who live between worlds just know the Tenth Island better. No matter where I have lived—I have never left my island.'"This book was a perfect read for a lazy Sunday morning, in a world where I have been longing for a little escape. I respect everyone's opinions, and not every book is for every person, but this particular book was perfect for me!!!

I am in awe at the skill of Ms Marcum in capturing the essence and spirit of other people and in making me feel I am one of those in her tale.Early in “The Tenth Island,” I found this quote from the author that describes not only the author, but me:‘I had also, for many years, longed for things swallowed in the past, forever out of reach. Now I finally knew where everyone went. And I may have found a word for something inside me that I didn’t even know what it was anymore. Saudade.” — from page 13.Now, on to explain what pleases me, and what concerns me while reading “The Tenth Island,” by Diana Marcum.THE WRITINGSTYLE, FLOW, EDITING First rate. As you will see in the below excerpt, this Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist is a writer who is expert at describing scenes and at communicating the thoughts and emotions of her subjects and, even, her own innermost secrets.BLUSH FACTOR - Language & Content *** The below paragraph is edited for clarity and as to who made the statement referred to. By older I meant a woman in her eighties and from whom one would not usually expect to hear putting her words in quite the way she did. It was one of the charms of the writing.In terms of profanities: No worries. In terms of frank talk of sex, well, some may be taken aback at how honest one character, an older woman in her eighties, addresses alternative means of sexual pleasure. I was surprised, but not shocked. Indeed, I have no qualms whatsoever with the inclusion of her discussion. However, I do know some folks would not forgive me if I failed to warn them. I certainly would not want anyone to presume that the frank talk was THAT harsh. It was surprising because the words came out of an elderly woman.CONFUSIONIn her introduction, the author indicates this is not a journalistic work, primarily because she changed names and even created one or more characters. Perhaps more is fictionalized, and perhaps not. While I greatly appreciate her disclaimer, and her honesty in so stating, it is impossible for me to determine how truthful her story was. He owns a beautiful hotel, right next to the water. I tell him there’s this writer who likes the Azores but never been to the Azores. He says, ‘Tell her to come and stay at my hotel. No problem.’ We got another friend way high with the airline. He’ll get you a free ticket. No-a strings. We know you can’t make-a no promises.”I thanked him but told him reporters weren’t allowed to take free trips. And I didn’t know anyone who might ask me for a movie script.“Don’t write anything,” he said. “Fernanda says to tell you, you should say yes.”Fernanda got on the phone. She told me that the American way is that “you wash my back, I wash yours.” But the Azorean way is that everybody works together to make enough for everybody. “These men put together a big pot of sopa—you grab a bowl.”The next day I was having lunch with a writer I considered a mentor even though we were only a few years apart. Even to his face, I called him the Manly Author. He had a lot in common with those Azorean bulls. Small spaces made him edgy; you could almost imagine him pawing the ground. Great read for those looking for an entertaining, fun, summer book. I enjoyed the characters that the author surrounded herself with and the lighthearted humor throughout the book.I have to strongly disagree with some of the lower ratings that a couple of people mentioned about the book not having enough of the history of the Azores and the history of the relationship with the Azores and CA. This is not a history book on the Azores or the immigrants that migrated to the United States. This book is about the love affair one woman had with the beautiful culture of the Azoreans and the path that took her there.

I was so enthralled by the Azores I kept googling for more info and now plan to go there next May. She is a great writer and I felt that she shared her hopes and fears with me throughout the adventure she took me on. I could smell the sea and the breads baking and taste the cheese. I could not have asked for anything more from a book as I enjoyed her friends as much as she did. A triumph.

Writing as clear and transparent as the blue sky of the Azores islands .. with touching characters pulled between their ancestors' island roots and their American opportunities for success. The author so skillfully describes smells, tastes, and sounds that the book is almost as vibrant as a movie. History is easily and naturally woven through the personal tale, never heavy or disruptive of the natural flow.Memorable opening to a corner of the world ... not surprising that far flung descendants return from across the ocean. Diana Marcum uses her reporting expertise to focus on tiny details that stand for deep truths. And when there is no word to express an emotion, she'll admit that too.

If you grew up in the area, this will take you down memory lane.

very disappointed. thought this would be a nice coffee table book , but its too small and the binding is too tight to open book enough to see all pics.

This book is an interesting history book about the history of Everett, Washington. Some of the interesting information that this book mentions is as follows; The city was named Everett after Charles Colby's young son by the name of Everett. Everett owes its start to Eastern investors. The Everett Land Company investors were led by Henry Hewett and Charles Colby. John D. Rockefeller also invested in Everett, but he never visited Everett in person while he was alive. Everett did not achieve the degree of success that the investors had hoped for in their lifetimes. Mills and factories were the city's lifeblood in the past. Today aerospace and technical jobs are the city's lifeblood. In the 1893 panic, three of Everett's five banks failed. There is a picture in the book of Woolworth's in Everett. At the lunch counter at Woolworth's, shoppers could enjoy a turkey dinner for 25 cents or an Apple Pie for a dime. The food was fairly priced and convenient. The Great Depression was not over in the 90 days as President Herbert Hoover had predicted.

This is a fun and interesting book! It's stuffed with pictures and tells the story of Everett from the first canon fire to the riots to the mills... An informative read, easy to get into and very entertaining. Perfect for someone looking back on the history of Everett, or for schools and homeschoolers, or even just to get to know a place you didn't know before.

There are so many reasons to read this book, other than the fact that it is simply a great read. The tech industry pretty much runs a huge chunk of our lives. Just as in medicine, law and every other profession under the sun, having both women and men on board makes a difference... and all for the better. Emily Chang looks at the psychological reasons why men dominate the tech industry in her book and traces the problem back to the very beginning...even mentioning the 19th century British mathematician, Ada Lovelace, who was the first o recognize that the computer could do so much more than merely calculate figures. I highly recommend the reading of the this very important work. It's definitely not just for people in the tech industry.

I learned a lot from this book. Incredibly thoughtful, fact-based, and with a strong narrative. This book showed me how under and uninformed I am, even as a male feminist. I came away as a more informed and motivated advocate. There is real work to do for us, especially men, to create a more inclusive and empowering environment for women. I especially loved the discussion of how products, solutions, and organizations are better with women on the team (especially leadership). The closing list of immediate actions helps create a call to action as well. Overall, the book makes a compelling case as to why more women in tech is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do.

A thoughtful, important, and incredibly timely book. I loved how the author took on the issue of gender in Silicon Valley from so many different angles - from the history of women in computing to female entrepreneurs to VCs/fundraising and culture issues. It made for a fast and fun read while at the same time being informative and grounded in diligent research and reporting. Ms Chang's background as a journalist shines in her ability to tell sides of this story never shared before and elevating new voices and perspectives. This is a nuanced issue without one single cause or solution, and Brotopia is a critical contribution to the conversation on how Silicon Valley can be a more inclusive place and truly live up to its egalitarian ideals.

I read it because of the Vanity Fair article about sex parties in Silicon Valley and I worked for a Silicon Valley company that really shaped me. I will never think the same about the Burning Man again--and I never went. The story was some more than sex orgies by the men of Silicon Valley with the young hot good looking women. It left me sad too. Systemic devaluing and lack of opportunity for women in the Silicon Valley because of the brother club at the highest levels in most of the companies. Instead of leading, Silicon Valley leads all right. With all the stuff we read in the media about women, men, lack of hiring of women, and everything around it, this book spells it out pretty well.

Very well written, and very disturbing. This culture must be un-learned and hopefully remembered just as the dark side of tech. I would highly recommend as required reading in STEM courses.

Must read for anyone working in or adjacent to tech. Not because it’s shocking, because it isn’t if you’ve been paying attention, but because it is so well documented and laid out here, for the world to read. What an incredible loss to the world as a whole, to not support and encourage more women in tech. Big yes to this book.

Highly recommend you take the time to read this to understand the history of how tech became a male-dominated culture - hint: it isn’t “natural”, but was s consequence of deliberate actions - and the consequences of that male-domination for the industry and the world.

I have spent 26 years building my career while building companies and work force in the Silicon Valley. I grew up in India in before I came here. I just wished I would have read a book like this 30 years back.Thanks Ms Chang for writing this book. It was an education and inspiration.
