Judith Lothian is a nurse and childbirth educator with over 30 years of experience. She is an associate professor at Seton Hall University College of Nursing and is chair of the Lamaze International Certification Council. Dr. Lothian is a nationally recognized speaker on birth and breastfeeding, a columnist for The Journal of Perinatal Education, and a mother of five and grandmother of seven. This is round 3 for me, and after two hospital labors that were intervention-filled and not as I had hoped, I knew I needed this book.It is not a crunchy, hippie book- for all those nay-sayers. It is written with peer reviewed, scientific (all cited) research- which appeals to me as a medical professional. It is a reassuring and option giving book that is pro-mother. It gives a woman the information she needs to make the healthiest and safest choices for herself and her child. It also instills confidence in how and what we do during that natural process, without bashing the medical necessity for interventions.Highly HIGHLY recommended for moms- first go round or baby #3!

Honestly.I recently gave birth and this was one of two books I read while pregnant- the other was 6 Practical Lessons for an Easier Childbirth. This book really gave me the confidence that I CAN have a natural birth because guess what ladies? Our bodies were MADE to have children, women years before you have done it, and you can too. I loved all the little stories from women that were included, as well as the resources that were available in the back of the book. This book not only will give you the confidence you're looking for about birth, but also taking charge of your pregnancy and issues that come up with doctors and all the facts and statistics that have surfaced over the years. Fantastic book for pregnant women and their partners to read.

Love this book. Gave me a good perspective of what to ask, what to look for, what to do further research. I recommend this book for first time moms who want to educate themselves on a natural home birth approach...even if it's just for educational purposes it's a good read.
