This is a fun fashion book based on styles from the Victorian period. The elegant clothes of the period were stylized and had many swirls and layers of fabric. The hats were quite elaborate and contained bows and flowers and other embellishments. The designs in the book give you the opportunity to play with color and dress the ladies of the period as you would prefer.The designs in the book are detailed with lots of background patterns. The details are not intricate and small but they will keep you busy while you color.While you can have access to .PDFs when you purchase this book, my review is based on the book as it is received from Amazon. That way you will know what the pages look like and how they accept color. I like that the publisher provides the digital version as well so you can choose the paper you wish to use and/or to color the pictures as many times as you choose.This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:25 x 2 each fashion designs based on the Victorian Period for a total of 50 coloring pagesDesigns are printed on one side of the pagePaper is typical of CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated. The back of the page is printed black.The designs do not merge into the binding. There is a heavy framing line at the outer edges of the design to give the project a more finished look, especially for framing.Glue Binding (there is room to cut the pages out if you choose to do so.)Though you cannot see the bleed-through easily due to the back of the page being printed in black, I recommend the use of a blotter page when working in this book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work well with this paper. I found that I could layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick. I tested both oil and wax based pencils. I also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.

There's a lot of good things about this book. First, there's two sets of the drawings. Second, the drawings are only on side of the page and the back of each page is black, both things helping to prevent bleed-through. Another good thing is the artwork which looks really nice. Further the drawings are not overly complicated, making coloring them fairly easy. By the way, another good point is that, once you buy the book you can download a .pdf file of the same artwork, giving you backups in case you want to color the same piece of art in a bunch of different ways.

This coloring book scratches all my various itches: love for pretty dresses, the Victorian era, and crippling stress and anxiety. The paper isn't super thick, but my markers don't bleed through. The backside of each sheet is solid black so that helps. There are lots of different pictures and lots of different patterns. It's awesome. Buy it now.

I bought this coloring book a couple of months ago and almost all of the pages have been colored. Each page includes men and/or women in intricately designed fashions that are just wonderful to color. The drawings are beautiful and each page contains intricate fabric designs for the clothes, and a wonderful 'wallpaper' for the background. You can really be creative and have some fun with these. I also have the Edgar Allan Poe coloring book from Jade Summer, and I love that one, too. If you like adult coloring of scenes, and not just shapes and/or flowers, you'll love these!

Enjoyed this but for repeated pages and disproportioned subjects. Also, somewhat repetitive - a succession of standing figures.

Very disappointed Only a handful of pictures all the other pages were duplicates of them poor editing would hv been nice to have more of different poses what was there was pretty nice. Had to laugh- don’t think Victorian ladies had short hair or drank tea out of what looked like ceramic mugs. Take a look

While the history of a restaurant (as opposed to the history of the development of a chef) is not my first interest, there is enough information about how relationships with vendors, wines and cocktails to make the background material interesting even if you wish to concentrate on the recipes. Being a fan of San Francisco upper end tea tasting rooms, I loved the stories of pricey tea. The recipes are all easily executed in a home kitchen and use ingredients that are generally obtainable. Compared to other similar cookbooks, I think this executability is at the cost of authenticity if you think "Vietnamese" but at the strength of honest West Coast cooking.I appreciated the inclusion of common recipes such as Spring Rolls, Cashew Chicken and Green Papaya Salad - nothing spectacular but another view of the flavor profiles. I also appreciated the steamed meat recipes ... we are so used to crisped skin that pale meat genuinely challenges our eyes. My first reaction to the inclusion of many cocktail recipes was "what?" but the section taught me several new details on how to perfect a cocktail. I also appreciated the inclusion of several very simple recipes that can add a nice accent to a meal such as Fried Shishito Peppers. I also appreciated finding new uses for yuba (tofu skin) and sesame rice crackers. In total, several new recipes to try and some potential modifications of old standards makes this a useful cookbook.

Looks good but content doesn't compare to his first book.

Fantastic! Filled with the story of Phan's life and the inception of the restaurant. I lived in San Francisco for several years and loved eating at The Slanted Door. It's nice to now have some of Phan's recipes and understand his philosophy of food.

This is an absolutely phenomenal cookbook. All of the recipes are easy to follow and produce great results. Not only are the recipes great, but the pictures are vibrant and the stories are very well told. Another bonus- it's a gorgeous book! It is so pretty that it makes a lovely addition to the coffee table. This is definitely worth every penny.

I'll definitely enlist the help of a sous chef to tackle some of these fabulous recipes. My first challenge will be the green papaya salad.

This book is filled with recipes from one of my niece's favorite San Francisco restaurants. Beautiful book, awesome recipes.

I am overjoyed that Charles Phan would share his wonderful recipes with everyone. I've made the Jicama & Grapefruit Salad, Papaya Salad and Barbeque Pork Ribs. All were perfect, like eating at the Slated Door. Both salads were fresh and vibrant and made my mouth water. My goal is to try all the recipes at least once.Some of the recipes require sourcing unique items and advanced preparation. I received a Nikon D5600 Camera with two kit lens for my birthday. I purchased this book to help me get familiar with it. I am so glad that I did! Right off the bat, this book proved to be very useful. The manual that came with my camera has such tiny print that it is basically worthless to me. Therefore, this book was a blessing!After reading Chapter 1 - First Steps, First Shots- I noticed that I needed to set up my viewfinder to my eyesight. I had no idea that I needed to do that. It was explained clearly and I felt confident setting up everything even as a newbie. I am not very far into this book as I am a new, budding photographer who still needs the beginner modes. I am wanting to learn how to use the advanced modes with shutter speed, ISO, etc. I know that this book will help me understand and venture out fairly quickly into other advanced and manual modes. I am currently just starting to get to those, but so excited!I hope to have more time to devote to this awesome book soon. so that I can start using all that this camera has to offer. I would definitely recommend this book as of August 13, 2017 for anyone who is new to photography and new to their Nikon D5600 camera. I am not sure how useful this book would be if you already are familiar with Nikon DSLR cameras and using their settings.For the Nikon D5600 Camera and photography newbie this book is definitely the 'manual" to get! The Nikon D5600 has so many features. I am thankful for this book to help me explore and discover new things on my camera all the time. Thank you for writing this book so that I could enjoy my camera even more. Pictures are awesome too. I got the kindle version so that I would always have the book on my smart phone and with me. Easy to read. Lots of pictures indicating where things are located.

I already knew my Nikon D80 inside and out having been using it for the past 10 years. The Nikon D5600 has a ton of cool additional features and this D5600 for Dummies was perfect for me (an advanced user very familiar already with Nikon) and would be perfect for a beginner as well. I was very impressed by how much I learned and I was able to go through the entire book in a day and now it is a GREAT reference for when I forget something. This is WAY better than the Nikon user guide and way better than the Lantern guide I purchased separately for my Nikon D80 (they don't make one for the D5600, but even if they did, I'd recommed this guide for dummies.

A very good basic introduction to the Nikon D5600. Helpful descriptions and pictures. In the Kindle edition there are hot links to take you to the illustrations. Bought it to help out learning my D5600 Nikon. The camera did not come with a manual, you have to DL it from NikonUSA.com. Very large manual to dl too. This boils everything down to easy to understand descriptions and how to. Fast delivery too. Worth the money.

Right out of the box ..... excellent photos. I did however purchase the 35mm 1.8f prime lens in addition to the 2 kit lens. Well worth it as the f1.8 really allows for good phtoto inlow light. Camera is very versitile. Buy D5600 for dummies book. Must read for novice and beginners. Also, an external flash for the hot shoe or off camera is a nice addition (with wireless remote)

I have not finished reading the book yet, but thus far it has been very good. It is written in a very easy going-easy to comprehend manner. I wish it had been included with the purchase of the camera, something Nikon should consider. I am sure I will refer to it often. Anyone with this camera should have this book.

Just what I needed to reintroduce me to photography and teach me to use this camera with so many buttons.

I ranked her as my favorite author years ago and have read all her books. but this one was a chore. I swear if I had to read one more page of who went where, I thought I would scream. It took 4 tries before I stuck it out, and then only because of lack of anything else to read. This is her worst work yet. The one before it wasn't good either. I don't remember what it was about. But the first books I read so many years ago are still alive in my memory. This is my last purchase. It makes me sad.

I bought this book solely based on the fact that I loved loved loved all previous Penny Vincenzi books. Mistake. Had to force myself through this one, kinda so predictable and boring, with a few exceptions. Exaggerated in all accounts, like: deeply in love (Louise), very macho (Matt), very weak (Charles) etc., all characters are totally defined since the beginning and don't change.No surprises here, and no mystery. Hope next book will be like the "oldies". ;-(

This does not fit the cannot-put-down page-turning excitement of a Penny Vincenzi book. It has been months and I am still plodding along. This is NOT typical of a PV novel. I think she has lost her edge with these news books. The older ones were treasures!

If you have read the Lytton family trilogy don't bother. So many similarities it is like a condensed version of the trilogy, not a new story. Affair goes bad, high flying career girl has abortion and regrets it. Mother forced to give up career by husband who wants her devoted to the children. Wealthy family living in London, and a country manor they love visiting, etc, etc, too many similarities

I cannot believe that this loved author would do this. Publish a book in 2011 under one name and then the same book in 2012 under a different title! I guess it is my fault for just preordering "More Than You Know" without reading what the book was about, but since I love this author and all of her books, I knew it had to be something I had to order. Now to find out they are the same book! WOW! I am so at a loss for words! "The Decision" which now comes in paperback is a great read but please don't order "More Than You Know" thinking you are getting a new release! Please Penny, come up with some new material as I simply loved all of your books!

Not up on my list compared to the others. I loved all the others I have read.

I have read almost all her books. Very odd this book was released under two titles. Another 600 + page turner in true Vincenzi style with many interesting characters and subplots. Matt and Eliza were a real pair their daughter had more sense then the two of them put together.Thank you for another winner. So looking forward to her next.

Author Michelle Dean could herself be the 11th entrant in this book of ten ‘sharp’ women writers of the last century. Her erudition, insight, and synthesizing acumen make the book both an education and a delight.Part biography, part literary criticism, part social history (with more than a dollop of well documented gossip), Ms. Dean weaves together differing and at times prickly threads (uh, think Hannah Arendt and Pauline Kael) into a coherent and engaging narrative.I wanted to read Sharp because (shame on me) although I recognize all the names here, I knew little of the ten writers profiled (make that eleven if you count a short chapter - short shrift? - on Zora Neale Hurston). True, if I was really motivated I could have read the wikipedia articles and surfed the web, but Ms. Dean’s book held out the promise of a comprehensive overview coming from an an informed and engaged writer who has spend some time with her topic.I wasn’t disappointed. I learned enough to whet my appetite, and I plan to read both Mary McCarthy and Joan Didion for sure. That Ms. Dean brings together a bit of cultural history and the feel of the times adds an invaluable context for her subjects.I am not sure I buy the feminist angle - and neither did some of these writers - but happily it is applied with a lighter than usual touch. All of the 10 are most worthy and all achieved more than a modicum of success.True, at times Ms. Dean’s narrative becomes embroiled in long past literary feuds which were of interest only to an in-crowd even then, and some of the presumed significance of the New York literary scene itself is excessively reverential, nevertheless there is not a lot to skip over here.I hope Ms. Dean is not offended when I say her book is a great place to start for those coming to these authors for the first time. No previous knowledge is needed, no critical background, just a willingness to learn about some great writers and their work.Let me end with a personal preference for the sharpest of the sharp: Dorothy Parker. The oldest of the ten, and the one with the least formal education (she never finished high school). Maybe she didn’t deal with the big issues but she sure had the keenest of insights. Yup, a lot of her work is dated and much of her light verse is dead on the page. But when she was good, she was very, very good. So good that when Ms. Dean quotes a picture caption written for Vogue at the beginning of Parker’s career, the wit is piercing and still hysterically funny.

My 3-star review is perhaps random because I ended up picking and choosing which chapters I wanted to read. I was more interested in some of the women over others. But I love the research that went into each chapter, the pulling of them all together...bravo. I never would have known what I know now about the fabulous women portrayed in this book.

Enjoyable, but not as educational or as personal as I would have liked.

Well written and enjoyable read.

I wanted to like this book, but didn't. Our book club chose it for our June book. We all decided the author didn't care for her subjects or chose to portray them in the worst light possible.

These short biographical pieces were uniformly interesting. Recommend it, especially to men.

My friend loved it!
