I received a Nikon D5600 Camera with two kit lens for my birthday. I purchased this book to help me get familiar with it. I am so glad that I did! Right off the bat, this book proved to be very useful. The manual that came with my camera has such tiny print that it is basically worthless to me. Therefore, this book was a blessing!After reading Chapter 1 - First Steps, First Shots- I noticed that I needed to set up my viewfinder to my eyesight. I had no idea that I needed to do that. It was explained clearly and I felt confident setting up everything even as a newbie. I am not very far into this book as I am a new, budding photographer who still needs the beginner modes. I am wanting to learn how to use the advanced modes with shutter speed, ISO, etc. I know that this book will help me understand and venture out fairly quickly into other advanced and manual modes. I am currently just starting to get to those, but so excited!I hope to have more time to devote to this awesome book soon. so that I can start using all that this camera has to offer. I would definitely recommend this book as of August 13, 2017 for anyone who is new to photography and new to their Nikon D5600 camera. I am not sure how useful this book would be if you already are familiar with Nikon DSLR cameras and using their settings.For the Nikon D5600 Camera and photography newbie this book is definitely the 'manual" to get! Lots of instructions on it's abilities and how to use the settings for best results. It really is like a photography course in a book that is very easy to understand and you can go at your own pace. I would definitely recommend this book and this author. I will look for more of her books in the future!

The Nikon D5600 has so many features. I am thankful for this book to help me explore and discover new things on my camera all the time. Thank you for writing this book so that I could enjoy my camera even more. Pictures are awesome too. I got the kindle version so that I would always have the book on my smart phone and with me. Easy to read. Lots of pictures indicating where things are located.

I already knew my Nikon D80 inside and out having been using it for the past 10 years. The Nikon D5600 has a ton of cool additional features and this D5600 for Dummies was perfect for me (an advanced user very familiar already with Nikon) and would be perfect for a beginner as well. I was very impressed by how much I learned and I was able to go through the entire book in a day and now it is a GREAT reference for when I forget something. This is WAY better than the Nikon user guide and way better than the Lantern guide I purchased separately for my Nikon D80 (they don't make one for the D5600, but even if they did, I'd recommed this guide for dummies.

A very good basic introduction to the Nikon D5600. Helpful descriptions and pictures. In the Kindle edition there are hot links to take you to the illustrations. Bought it to help out learning my D5600 Nikon. The camera did not come with a manual, you have to DL it from NikonUSA.com. Very large manual to dl too. This boils everything down to easy to understand descriptions and how to. Fast delivery too. Worth the money.

Right out of the box ..... excellent photos. I did however purchase the 35mm 1.8f prime lens in addition to the 2 kit lens. Well worth it as the f1.8 really allows for good phtoto inlow light. Camera is very versitile. Buy D5600 for dummies book. Must read for novice and beginners. Also, an external flash for the hot shoe or off camera is a nice addition (with wireless remote)

I have not finished reading the book yet, but thus far it has been very good. It is written in a very easy going-easy to comprehend manner. I wish it had been included with the purchase of the camera, something Nikon should consider. I am sure I will refer to it often. Anyone with this camera should have this book.

Just what I needed to reintroduce me to photography and teach me to use this camera with so many buttons.

Two people whose values are so different that one wonders how they lasted as long as they did. Their child is the glue that holds them together for a good part of their marriage, and in the end, the child will become the centerpiece in an ugly and destructive custody battle.All the supporting characters were intriguing in their own way, from Scarlett, Matt's sister, to Mariella, a beautiful socialite that Eliza met while working on a fashion magazine. The careers, relationships, and how these characters were swept along with the times, showing us their interior and exterior worlds, kept me glued to the pages, even as I sometimes grew impatient with their behavior and their thinking.Vincenzi has a way of delving into the gritty lives of the characters, and as the marriage between Eliza and Matt disintegrates, she depicts how the characters have come to some realizations about the institution and what befalls it:"Marriages do not suddenly drop dead; they expire slowly, from a thousand cutting words, a million misunderstandings, from an unwillingness to apologize to a willingness to take revenge. There is a dawning--slow at first, then gathering pace--that things are not as they were and moreover not as they should be, that responses are not what is hoped for, that disappointment is more frequent than delight, that resentment is more persistent than forgiveness, all remarked upon and brooded over and then stored angrily away. Desire dies; affection withers; trust becomes a memory."As I finished the story and felt that glow that comes with a satisfying ending, I knew that I had revisited a season of change in the lives of the characters that mirrored those felt by any of us who lived through those times. I could feel again what it was like to experience the passions, desires, and ambitions that burst upon us all when traditions were cast aside in favor of new ideas. Four stars.

I ranked her as my favorite author years ago and have read all her books. but this one was a chore. I swear if I had to read one more page of who went where, I thought I would scream. It took 4 tries before I stuck it out, and then only because of lack of anything else to read. This is her worst work yet. The one before it wasn't good either. I don't remember what it was about. But the first books I read so many years ago are still alive in my memory. This is my last purchase. It makes me sad.

I bought this book solely based on the fact that I loved loved loved all previous Penny Vincenzi books. Mistake. Had to force myself through this one, kinda so predictable and boring, with a few exceptions. Exaggerated in all accounts, like: deeply in love (Louise), very macho (Matt), very weak (Charles) etc., all characters are totally defined since the beginning and don't change.No surprises here, and no mystery. Hope next book will be like the "oldies". ;-(

This does not fit the cannot-put-down page-turning excitement of a Penny Vincenzi book. It has been months and I am still plodding along. This is NOT typical of a PV novel. I think she has lost her edge with these news books. The older ones were treasures!

If you have read the Lytton family trilogy don't bother. So many similarities it is like a condensed version of the trilogy, not a new story. Affair goes bad, high flying career girl has abortion and regrets it. Mother forced to give up career by husband who wants her devoted to the children. Wealthy family living in London, and a country manor they love visiting, etc, etc, too many similarities

I cannot believe that this loved author would do this. Publish a book in 2011 under one name and then the same book in 2012 under a different title! I guess it is my fault for just preordering "More Than You Know" without reading what the book was about, but since I love this author and all of her books, I knew it had to be something I had to order. Now to find out they are the same book! WOW! I am so at a loss for words! "The Decision" which now comes in paperback is a great read but please don't order "More Than You Know" thinking you are getting a new release! Please Penny, come up with some new material as I simply loved all of your books!

Not up on my list compared to the others. I loved all the others I have read.

I have read almost all her books. Very odd this book was released under two titles. Another 600 + page turner in true Vincenzi style with many interesting characters and subplots. Matt and Eliza were a real pair their daughter had more sense then the two of them put together.Thank you for another winner. So looking forward to her next.

The oldest of the ten, and the one with the least formal education (she never finished high school). Maybe she didn’t deal with the big issues but she sure had the keenest of insights. Yup, a lot of her work is dated and much of her light verse is dead on the page. But when she was good, she was very, very good. So good that when Ms. Dean quotes a picture caption written for Vogue at the beginning of Parker’s career, the wit is piercing and still hysterically funny.

My 3-star review is perhaps random because I ended up picking and choosing which chapters I wanted to read. I was more interested in some of the women over others. But I love the research that went into each chapter, the pulling of them all together...bravo. I never would have known what I know now about the fabulous women portrayed in this book.

Enjoyable, but not as educational or as personal as I would have liked.

I wanted to like this book, but didn't. Our book club chose it for our June book. We all decided the author didn't care for her subjects or chose to portray them in the worst light possible.

These short biographical pieces were uniformly interesting. Recommend it, especially to men.

I absolutely loved this book!! I bought two different books with the same theme (adoptive family moves to country of child), and this one was by far the best. Written in the style of Peter Hessler's Rivertown, the author shares interesting cultural insights viewed through the backdrop of Chinese calligraphy and its origins. The family goes "native" and spends time with their community - building endearing relationships with their neighbors, teachers, and students. I enjoyed Aminta's perspective - kindly critical and appropriately admiring depending on the topic. Her ability to listen to the opinions and viewpoints of others and explain them was refreshing - whether or not you agreed with her conclusions. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in China and its people - especially adoptive families.

This book was a delightful and informative read. It gives real insight into everyday life in China, as well as its history, from a Westerner's perspective, and the author's humorous anecdotes added to the enjoyment of the book.The author allows you to get into her heart and her head. It is written as a participant, not just an observer, since she, her husband, and her children live there for years, attending and teaching in Chinese schools, rather than just passing through.I especially enjoyed the colorful descriptions of the things and people the author and her family witnessed, and the depiction of the struggles to adapt and fit in to a culture that is so vastly different, and yet somehow so humanly similar to our own. I really liked reading the accounts of the children and their impressions of the country and language, and how they adapted to going to school, interacting with Chinese playmates, eating Chinese cuisine, and learning to speak Chinese.This is the second book I have read this year on an American in China, but this account was so much more informative about China, and the Chinese perspective, rather than only an American's experience.I ordered a second copy for my mother-in-law who is a teacher, as I felt she would appreciate the teacher perspective of the adventure.I highly recommend the book. I couldn't put it down.

This book is a most lovely read for anyone who is interested in:1. teaching English in China2. adopting a Chinese child3. learning Chinese charactersMy wife is Chinese from Nanchang where Anniston's daughter was adopted. Every time we've gone there we've met American couples who had adopted Chinese children. We also met people who were teaching English; one was from Cameroon.This book is in the line of those by Peter Hessler, John Pomfret, and Jan Wong: easy "popular" introductions to contemporary China.

This book was full of surprises and insights. She has a westerner's perspective without the prejudices. I learned a great deal and enjoyed her experiences as did my bookclub. It made for some lively conversation. Share it with people who are traveling to China; I'm positive they will appreciate learning about ordinary life in China's medium sized and small cities and towns. Her children's experiences enriched the understanding as well.

I loved this book both as a "cultural" travelogue and as a sneak peek into the everyday life and thoughts of the average Chinese. Arrington's many insights include: Why the Chinese asks so few questions? What is the evolution and meaning of some Chinese written characters? How do the Chinese view Western criticism of the Tibet demonstrations or the one-child policy? What was life like for Arrington's daughter's first year as an infant, living with a foster family in a poor provincial village? But mostly I admire Arrington and her family's flexibility when faced with a daunting move to China to teach English and connect with her adopted daughter's culture and language. The everyday inconvenience of living in a small cramped, way-to-tiny apartment, to lack of heat until the government turns it on, to the not having American food readily available. It all makes this book unique. This is delightfully well-written and is a must read for anyone who plans to move to China.

I moved to China 4 months ago, and when a friend suggested I read this book, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical. It has been, however, a breath of fresh air and a helpful tool in gaining a new perspective on the land that I now call home. Any transition and cultural change is bound to be difficult, but the author and her family have become allies in this journey that I am on. From her insight into the Chinese language (which has been frustrating to learn for me, to say the very least) to her descriptions of the emotions that come with daily life here, this book is spot on! Anyone who has recently moved to (or will move to) China from the West should take the time to read this book!

Fantastic book! Very insightful. Aminta does a great job of explaining a character, its meaning, and providing several delightful stories about her family and their life in China. If you have ever spent significant amount of time in China, this book will resonate with you.

This is a fascinating cultural learning experience for the reader as well as the family she writes about. It opened my eyes to what China - at least a part of it - is really like. Since I probably will never travel to China, this is the only way I have of learning about the country. I hope everyone who reads this book likes it as much as I did.

This claims to be "A Laugh Out Loud Comedy Sequel."It's more like a "you might chuckle a time or two before you close it and forget it" e-book.The drunk minister, his harpy of a wife, the rich jerk... I think Monty Python covered these, or some other comedy troupe--and did it better (and I'm not even a huge fan of Monty Python). Southern comedian Jerry Clower covered similar much better (Marcel Ledbetter ring any bells?) than this e-book does.The bottom line is, this material has been done--and done better--dozens of times, and what made it successful all those times was the fact that it was either visual or spoken media. This doesn't lend itself well to this format, and when it is in this format, it's a single page in Reader's Digest, from several submitters, where the funniest stories are chosen by several people--not some guy who thinks it's hysterical, but it's really only worth a polite smile or a chuckle at best.

I ordered this book based on reviews that said this was a laugh out loud book-I didn't find anything to laugh about--it was only mildly amusing but mostly it was tedious getting thru it trying to find the funny parts. Get it at the library if you must read it.

British humor. It is amusing and did evoke a chuckle or two, but not generally laugh out loud funny. It's worth a read, and enjoyable, but not quite my cup of tea. Another person may disagree.

I have read all of the idiot review books and this is is just as good as the first. The only way it could be better is if it were longer. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a laugh.

I always feel badly when I can't give a book a good rating but, I found this one to be non-humorous at best. I try very hard to finish every book I start to read but gave up on this one about half way through. Sorry Pete but that's just my humble opinion. Please don't give up but try to put a little more humorous phrases in so I can reread it and give you kudos for a job well done. I read up to ten books a week and love to preview anything I can get my hands on in a timely manner. So many Kindle e books have massive grammatical errors which make them no fun to read.
