Craft retells Apuleius's story (although Apuleius's name nowhere appears) with several minor and two significant changes. When Venus seeks revenge on the too-beautiful Psyche, she instructs her son to make the girl a slave (in various translations) to an "unworthy," "poor and abject," or "ugly and monstrous" love. Craft's charge is to make her love "the most frightening creature in the world," neatly meshing with the description of Cupid as one whose power even the gods fear. In abridging the story, Craft loses some of the tension in the family drama of the sisters' envy, Venus's enmity, and Psyche's efforts (here she is aided by Cupid, while in Apuleius even stones spontaneously help her). When she returns from her last task, with the box containing one day's beauty, Craft misses the connection between sleep and beauty, emphasizing instead the sleep of death. I bought this book for my daughter and read it prior to handing it over to make sure it had appropriate content for her. She's 12. I read it out loud to my husband and was interrupted prior to finishing. He said I couldn't give it to her until we finished because he wanted to hear what happened next!!! So, it's a great story but I feel it might be best for 12 years+. The message is nice and a beautiful love story!!! The pictures are gorgeous!!!

I knew a tiny bit about the Cupid and Psyche myth when I began reading this version. It's a great lesson in trust and patience. Also, another beautifully illustrated book by Craft. I'm terribly excited to own it. I think this book will appeal to readers of all ages. That said, being this is the fairytale version, perhaps I'll dig deeper and read more about this great love.

Absolutely beautiful! My husband and I read to our daughters every night and this book was a perfect addition to our rotation. I also purchased three other books by this author/illustrator that are well loved. Highly recommend!

A lovely retelling of the Greek Myth. The best part are the illustrations. Kinuko Craft is amazing. Any time I can aquire a book illustrated by her, I grab it up. These are books to keep for the next generation. Especially as the next generation may begin to see bookstores disappear as tablet and kindles begin take over the way in which we access literature. I like to be able to hold books and linger over artwork.

Just like in "Pegasus," the story of "Cupid and Psyche" retells the myth of the two lovers in a very accessible manner, which makes it ideal for young children and anyone else who is unfamiliar with Greek mythology. Cupid and Psyche are perfect for each other, but, as is often the case in love stories, they must overcome great trials before they can be together. In a sense, it's by going through the trials that realize just how much they love each other.

Beautiful artwork. Great retelling of the myth. This book and others like it have really sparked my daughters love for mythology.

Peck, very productive of late, may never have written a timelier, more cogent, more fluently readable book than this one. He believes that no current ethical-legal issue is more important than euthanasia and that there is not enough discussion of and even contention over it. He presents and considers the medical, spiritual, and social issues of euthanasia. Medicine, though it has finally conceded that "pulling the plug" on the terminally ill is a moral accession to the naturalness of dying, has yet to grant the necessity of fully relieving physical pain--that is, even to the point of eventually lethal doses of painkiller--and has barely begun to acknowledge hellish emotional pain as a condition from which suicide may be a wholly natural release. Spiritually, Peck insists that suicide done out of the individualistic desire to control one's life and to deny one's God-given soul must be discouraged, for life is a learning experience that ought to be fully realized, even through suffering. Yet Peck cites circumstances in which assisted suicide seems morally justified (one great strength of the book is the cases from which Peck educes the complexities he discusses--all of them real, drawn from his and other physicians' practices). He concludes, however, that at present society isn't spiritually strong enough to legalize physician-assisted suicide, which is perhaps the greatest reason that euthanasia must become the subject of a great and completely open debate, one that he has masterfully and engagingly begun. Dr. Peck provides all aspects ... moral, religious, medical, and family considerations for whether or not people should consider ending their life when their health has dramatically declined. The book is extremely thought-provoking and well written. I think all doctors and those people at the end of their life should educate themselves by reading this book.

Death is the cure to life! Imagine if none of us die and linger on with our faculties diminishing, it would be a miserable life. God has created a perfect system and we need to have the courage to accept it with its joys and pain. Dr Scott Peck touches on the untouchable subjects very well in this book, as all his books.

Excellent discussion about quality of life and living fully with heart and soul. Body, mind & spirit are not independent of each other, but beautifully interwoven. Good companion read with “Being Mortal “.

As a former trainer for Scott Peck's Road Less Traveled Seminars, I am not an objective voice. I love the way Scott attacks difficult issues with generosity and compassion. On the other hand, he doesn't shy away from putting forth an unpopular perspective to stimulate discourse and encourage you to challenge your values.

I bought it fr my brother as a birthday gift, and he has read it with zeal and likes the style and presentation of the author.My brother is an ordained clergy person and is very well read.

A very thoughtful book on the complexity of end-of-life issues and care.

Scott Peck at his best - his perspectives on process of dying and euthanasia and how they represent our culture today are alarming. This is a subject that needs open honest discussion.

This book is a fun - makes me think of the Partridge Family bus! The designs are for the most part very similar but still fun and inspiring. I've already finished the first 3 in the book - one using shades of red, blue and purple, one using Neon Pencils and the last using Neon gel pens (sorry, no camera or scanner). The designs are printed on one side only which is a huge plus for me - I've reached the point where that's about the only way I purchase books anymore. I always put a piece of parchment paper just in case but even the gel pens did not leak through - the paper quality is very nice. And I enjoy the little blurbs on the back of the pages - quotes by people like John Lennon, Eleanor Roosevelt, etc. Lovely book for the price and most definitely a relaxing way to spend a few hours each day.

I love the patterns, they are really fun to color. But the paper is thin and it bleeds through to the back and on to the next page. I put a piece of paper between the papers, the one I’m working on, and The one behind. but this particular patterns is on both sides of the paper. So it leaks through.

The is such a beautiful coloring book and many of the pictures have large spaces to color. My 6 yo granddaughter has already claimed this one for herself so looks like I'll be purchasing another one. We both love it, thanks!

Kind of a waste only few have full pics and paper easily rips. Bought 2 and both the same wouldn't buy again.

Gave this to my 9 year old daughter who loves music. she loves it! It's a little different from her other books as some of the pages have much more white/blank space, which I think is a welcome change.

I love Jess Volinsky and her books are great. One sided print and perforated pages. The paper has a nice quality to it and it hold up well to markers. The drawings range from very detailed to simple. I love this.

Quick Summary: Great resource if you're planning an in-depth stay in Thailand for a longer period, but not necessary for a short tourist visitI read Culture Smart!-Thailand before a three-month stay, during which I would be working in both rural and urban areas. The material in the book helped me feel more comfortable and confident before going, but once I was there I hardly touched the book. In urban areas especially, Thai services and people are very accommodating to western culture, and English is commonly used. As a tourist, you can get by with a very limited amount of prior knowledge of Thai culture and customs (although I am not encouraging this), and you can find enough tips about customs, food, and transportation using quick online searches.For those looking to stay long-term, form relationships with the people, or work in the country, I would highly recommend this book. Nothing can fully prepare you for what you'll experience in a different culture, but reading through this book certainly helped me feel prepared. In particular, I found the sections on the history and politics, the royal family, and the values and attitudes of the people to be useful when I was in the country. Also, the chapter on communication, paired with Learn Thai language learning app on my phone, helped me learn several key phrases. Speaking even just a little Thai seemed to have positive effects with Thai residents. The business chapter seems useful for a corporate setting, but I did not find it applicable to my work.Overall, I found that the customs and advice given in this book were accurate, although maybe a little over-exaggerated in regards to their strictness among Thai people and the expectations placed on visitors. Also, the book was published before the King passed away in 2016, so an update is needed. Culture Smart!-Thailand isn't perfect, but I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay long-term or be a more responsible tourist.

The reading offered insight into several things I was hoping to learn prior to try to do business in the Thais corporate environment. Hopefully it will assist me in my objective to do business with several Thai companies.

I am heading to Thailand and this is a wonderful book to learn about where to go and their customs. So valuable and so happy to have it before I go.Full of everything you need to know...a must to take with you!

This book was good for simple, basic overheads for patios and/or decks. It gave some limited plans and recommendations for lumber. It also listed a variety of roofing materials but was somewhat unspecific on the pros and cons of each. We liked what the book did offer, but finished it feeling rather unsatisfied.

Helpful information, but not as good as "Gazebos & Other Structures". I'm not sure that the editors actually have built any of the structures described. Lots of cutesy California designs. Great photos of construction techniques, some of which could be challenged.
