This book is a fun - makes me think of the Partridge Family bus! The designs are for the most part very similar but still fun and inspiring. I've already finished the first 3 in the book - one using shades of red, blue and purple, one using Neon Pencils and the last using Neon gel pens (sorry, no camera or scanner). The designs are printed on one side only which is a huge plus for me - I've reached the point where that's about the only way I purchase books anymore. I always put a piece of parchment paper just in case but even the gel pens did not leak through - the paper quality is very nice. And I enjoy the little blurbs on the back of the pages - quotes by people like John Lennon, Eleanor Roosevelt, etc. Lovely book for the price and most definitely a relaxing way to spend a few hours each day.

I love the patterns, they are really fun to color. But the paper is thin and it bleeds through to the back and on to the next page. I put a piece of paper between the papers, the one I’m working on, and The one behind. but this particular patterns is on both sides of the paper. So it leaks through.

The is such a beautiful coloring book and many of the pictures have large spaces to color. My 6 yo granddaughter has already claimed this one for herself so looks like I'll be purchasing another one. We both love it, thanks!

Kind of a waste only few have full pics and paper easily rips. Bought 2 and both the same wouldn't buy again.

Gave this to my 9 year old daughter who loves music. she loves it! It's a little different from her other books as some of the pages have much more white/blank space, which I think is a welcome change.

I love Jess Volinsky and her books are great. One sided print and perforated pages. The paper has a nice quality to it and it hold up well to markers. The drawings range from very detailed to simple. I love this.

Quick Summary: Great resource if you're planning an in-depth stay in Thailand for a longer period, but not necessary for a short tourist visitI read Culture Smart!-Thailand before a three-month stay, during which I would be working in both rural and urban areas. The material in the book helped me feel more comfortable and confident before going, but once I was there I hardly touched the book. In urban areas especially, Thai services and people are very accommodating to western culture, and English is commonly used. As a tourist, you can get by with a very limited amount of prior knowledge of Thai culture and customs (although I am not encouraging this), and you can find enough tips about customs, food, and transportation using quick online searches.For those looking to stay long-term, form relationships with the people, or work in the country, I would highly recommend this book. Nothing can fully prepare you for what you'll experience in a different culture, but reading through this book certainly helped me feel prepared. In particular, I found the sections on the history and politics, the royal family, and the values and attitudes of the people to be useful when I was in the country. Also, the chapter on communication, paired with Learn Thai language learning app on my phone, helped me learn several key phrases. Speaking even just a little Thai seemed to have positive effects with Thai residents. The business chapter seems useful for a corporate setting, but I did not find it applicable to my work.Overall, I found that the customs and advice given in this book were accurate, although maybe a little over-exaggerated in regards to their strictness among Thai people and the expectations placed on visitors. Also, the book was published before the King passed away in 2016, so an update is needed. Culture Smart!-Thailand isn't perfect, but I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay long-term or be a more responsible tourist.

The reading offered insight into several things I was hoping to learn prior to try to do business in the Thais corporate environment. Hopefully it will assist me in my objective to do business with several Thai companies.

This book was good for simple, basic overheads for patios and/or decks. It gave some limited plans and recommendations for lumber. It also listed a variety of roofing materials but was somewhat unspecific on the pros and cons of each. We liked what the book did offer, but finished it feeling rather unsatisfied.

Helpful information, but not as good as "Gazebos & Other Structures". I'm not sure that the editors actually have built any of the structures described. Lots of cutesy California designs. Great photos of construction techniques, some of which could be challenged.

I wanted to give this novel five stars for the power and beauty of Ivan Doig's prose, his lyrical descriptions of the settings, five stars for his finely drawn characterization of Rob, Angus, Lucas, and Adair. I was at times spellbound by the fineness of these elements. However, the narrative pace was slowed, almost painfully at times, by the lengthy details which caused me to skim through a few pages here and there. But Anna, unlike the other major characters, came across as wooden and even shallow. I found Adair far more interesting, and worthy of Angus' undying love, than Anna, whose only real asset was her beauty. I thought Angus possessed enough intelligence and depth of character to have figured this out for himself, but he never really did, but stubbornly clung to his idealized and pointless obsession with his unattainable first love. For a historical novel, the setting of Montana seemed like another character engaged in the struggle that drives the three major actors in the story. I would highly recommend this novel for anyone curious about Montana's climate, scenery, and history.

Loved this book and Ivan's writing style. I stayed up until after 3 am this morning to finish the book before my book club luncheon today. Enjoyed this time but lamented the rush that preempted the time to savor and reread his lyrical and poetic writing style. He uses it to good advantage transcending time quickly in sections requiring it and then delves deeply elsewhere in a manner that can have your hair on end, things are so tightly suspenseful. It was my first book by this author and I'm sure it won't be my last. The only negative from my experience reading his book was that I started with a library book but the typeface was so hard to read, I ended up purchasing the kindle version. Thought about dinging the book a star or two as a result but think it's the publisher that deserves the ding, not this incredible author and his very beautiful book.

Among his other works, Ivan Doig has written two trilogies. Dancing at the Rascal Fair is part of the Montana, aka McCaskill, trilogy, and although it was written as the second book in that series, it covers the earliest time period, 1889-1919. It makes sense to read it first.As before, Doig paints a portrait of Montana in the early years of its growth and brings his characters to life in such a way that you feel you know them. He depicts seasons, time, and place poetically and allows the reader to immerse him/herself in those surroundings in all their imagery. The winters are forbidding, deadly ferocious; the winds whip through the pages; the smells of burning land pierce the reader's senses and burn the reader's eyes. You behold the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, the clear running rivers, the green spring grasses, and the vast, seemingly endless vistas.I was completely caught up in this story of the early settlers and homesteaders in the Two Medicine country, their dreams, friendships, disillusionments, loves, and tragedies. Doig's writing is simply wonderful......what separates literature from mere fiction.

This novel was so frustrating. I love Mr. Doig's style of writing and the first third of this novel was riveting. Then, Angus McCaskill doesn't get to marry the woman he loves. He spends the rest of the novel whining and pining for the woman he can't have rather than focusing on the wonderful wife he is married to. It's so irritating and completely ruined the rest of the novel. Skip this one and read 'The Whistling Season' instead.

It's been noted by other reviewers, and I agree that Dancing at the Rascal Fair is more than just a novel; it's a piece of literature. In fact, it’s been a while since I read a book as well written as this one. Ivan Doig is a master at description, and this novel is peopled by interesting, well-developed characters. Plus, the historical setting, Montana during its settlement period in the 1890s and early 1900s, is one about which I knew almost nothing.As with many literary pieces, there is a significant amount of symbolism going on, for the reader who chooses to notice: water, wheels, hands, the weather, etc. Fortunately, it's not necessary to analyze it to death to enjoy this well-told tale. In the end,while I was not very happy with the conclusion of the story, it was so well written that I’m giving it five stars anyway.

I had read Ivan Doig before, but just discovered "Dancing At The Rascal Fair." I skipped his latest book because the character of Morrie rubbed me the wrong way. So I picked up this one, which somehow I had missed. There's just one caveat I have. The idea that not only did Angus love Anna through the years, but that the love never changed or waned, and that he was willing to hurt his wife and son with that knowledge, bothered me. Love doesn't endure that way, especially if it first happened at 19 and didn't work out. Angus didn't give his wife a fair chance by carrying on and on about his love for Anna. Also, as far as I could tell, she didn't reciprocate that love in the way Mr. Doig insinuates. She chose someone else, and though she sometimes (very occasionally) met Angus alone, there was no hint of her carrying the torch the way he did. I think only a man would have carried on with that plot point for so long. But overall, of course, I thought this was a wonderful book and a wonderful story.

Read English Creek when I picked it up at a thrift store because I had read THE WHISTLING SEASON a few years ago in my book club. So, when I saw this was the beginning of the characters in English Creek, I sent for the book. It is not the kind of book you want to speed read. It is definitely one to savor the words and the construction of the plot and the eventual consequences of people's choices. His descriptive passages about Montana and the weather are really remarkable for their vividness and color. Good book! Highly recommend it.

my girls absolutely LOVE this book! i bought this copy because, being 2, they destroyed the paper copy i had. i love this book too. particularly because unlike all the other potty training books i've encountered, this book deals with reality instead of fantasy. the book talks about and illustrates accurate body parts and their functions, as well as showing and talking about pee pee and poo poo! other books just gloss over what goes into the potty and where it comes from if they mention it at all. while potty training may seem like a physical thing, it's really quite an abstract concept to try to teach someone with little experience of the world. and since little kids aren't embarrassed about nudity, body parts, or anything really,this is a very helpful tool. i would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who has kids.

This might be right for some families, but I wasn't a fan of the babyish language used to discuss body parts. I suppose no one would put the real words in a book for kids, but we make it a point to be frank and avoid shame about bodies and bodily functions with our one-year old. And we don't baby talk. It says "she has a wee-wee to make pee-pee" and it was just a little too cloying for me. Also, reading through it, I thought it was strange how the mother is telling the story and keeps saying "and I, Prudence's mother" for everything she does. It's very formal, perhaps going along with the theme of a fairy tale, but I thought it was odd. The illustrations are really cute, and though I'd like a book introducing the potty to be fun like the title implies, this didn't really have the right tone for us. There are some parts I thought were really overwrought and long, without actually explaining in plain language what the kid needs to do, and I think at this age, they don't really have the context to know what it's trying to imply. Plus I could see myself just hating having to read this 5 times a day. I wish I'd gone to the library to check it out first. We returned it, though as I said, it might be right for another style of training or another kid.

My daughter (almost 2) absolutely loves this book! My mother read this book to me while I was training, and when I saw it I knew it needed to be a tradition. She is so excited to read about Prudence using her potty, especially after she uses hers! I bought the hard cover board book, and it is great quality!

I read every little book before giving it to my daughter, of course. When I read this one I thought "wow, ok, that's a little more graphic than I was expecting". The funny thing is that she doesn't see it as graphic at all, just more facts about her body. If you don't let it throw you, it won't seem odd to them. Now while waiting on the potty, my daughter will sometimes say she wants to read the book about the baby and the potty. She's still working in not being afraid of pooping in the potty herself, but I think she's pretty proud of Prudence for doing it.

This was the book that I had when I was a child learning to use the potty so when my 2 year old daughter started potty training, I knew I wanted this book for her too! We had received other potty books and started our training with some success for a while but then we started to slip up and took a few steps back for a while. I didn't get this book right away because we seemed to be doing okay without it but then when we started to regress, I decided I should give it a try since I remembered loving it so much. Now my daughter talks about Prudence all the time and I sometimes catch her talking to her stuffed animals about her potty (asking her bunny if he thinks her potty is a hat or a flower pot)! Ha ha, she of course love the part where she "sat and sat and sat and sat and sat....." but she also gets a kick out of seeing the wee wee and poo poo in the potty and it really seems to be helping her to associate that she is in the same stage in life as Prudence and she wants to use the potty more to be just like her. This book is a classic and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a baby or to anyone who will be attending a baby shower as this is a great gift!

Cute book. I does explain the whole potty going process and a little about the body which is what I wanted. However, I feel like the depiction of the potty itself confused my daughter. The way they have drawn it looks like a pitcher or vase. It's very strange. The girl in the book wears cloth diapers with large diaper pins, so I thought possibly it was just an old fashioned potty. However, my grandmother was just as perplexed by this potty as we were. It's a decent little book, just be aware before you buy.

I remembered this book from when I was little so I bought it for my tougher-to-potty-train almost 3 year old and she is in love. She always wants to read her potty book! The book shows Prudence completely undressed and does have vaguely detailed images of little girls private areas so if you think that is too much for you or your child, you might want to skip this book. However, my daughter likes that Prudence is just like her as far as that goes. It also uses the terms "wee-wee" and "poo-poo" for the respective actions, if any one has issues with terminology. Other than that, please enjoy this wonderful book!**My 5 year old, who is completely potty trained, is also very interested in this book.

This is probably one of the best if not THE BEST potty book out there. I actually remember a family member having this book as a child and now that I'm getting ready to potty train my own, I have purchased several potty books, and this one has stood out as the best of the bunch. The pictures in it are very cute and funny. My husband thought the drawings were too much, but he has a stick up his butt, and probably needs to potty it out. Just be prepared for the pics of poo and pee and the occasional butt crack/hole.
