Chances are that you will only find praise for this latest book about RUSH from Martin Popoff. He does a great job of giving you the facts & nostalgia of a great band who's career is now well into it's 4th decade. This is also much more than a re-write of his earlier work "Contents Under Pressure", so it will please all who take the time to read its pages...And this is where the short-coming of the book actually lies...The print itself is often a very real pain to read when it is printed in white, & then printed over photographs etc etc. The print size is also too small for my liking, so you end up at times putting the book down out of frustration than satisfaction.Definitely needs to be read during daylight hours, & not by a bed-side lamp folks !!!Other than this irritating matter, the book is full of many great photographs, nostalgic items, & as always, with reviews about albums that will leave you wanting to debate matters with the author in disagreement, but that's always been the thing about RUSH, so somethings will never change !Over-all, a great book, & made with the very best quality paper, so like RUSH themselves, it's made to last.Enjoy.

Awesome illustrated history book brings back so many memories for this 45 year-long Rush fan! This is full of stuff that I'd forgotten about!This isn't a biography but rather a feel good table book. No mention of the sad or difficult challenges along the way.Very sad to see Rush (my all-time favorite band who I first saw in 1974) come to an end. It is admirable that they wish to perform at their peak or not at all. Geddy's been reaching for those high notes when he sings material from their earlier days, Neil cannot maintain the level of athleticism required for his unparalleled drumming and percussion style, and I've heard Alex has arthritis that makes playing pretty painful.This book will help keep memories from the heyday of Rush close at hand!

I have been a Rush fan since 1978 and own all their music and concert DVD releases (including more than 1 copy of each music release).I did enjoy this book but found it a very tedious read. It also lacked any real information about the band members themselves. Good information on the background of individual albums and their recording processes. There are lots of album reviews, band pictures, and pictures of band collectibles I had not seen before.However, if you are looking for more than the usual fanboy rah-rah information, might I suggest the movie biopic "Beyond The Lighted Stage." Great stuff there from the band members themselves.

I absolutely love Rush and have been trying to find a book about them for a while. This one could be considered coffee table quality. It covers all their albums up to Clockwork Angels, with those in the music industry writing each chapter. Each album is discussed and insight is given to the trio. It is like having Beyond The Lighted Stage in book form, so to speak, although the two are unrelated. If you enjoy Rush, you will probably enjoy this book.

I'm a huge RUSH fan and this book has many great photos and a lot of info. I even discovered tidbits and pics I have never heard or seen before. Note: The "R-U-S-H" on the cover is a cut out so the front book cover is not very sturdy and easy to bend or fold. Best to read on a flat surface.

As a diehard hard fan,I grew up with these guys in the 70's.Living in upstate NY,Rush toured through here nearly every year,and we never missed a show.This book is an absolute superior history of the band.Gotta be in your library if you are a fan.Martin Popoff did an excellent job here,the book is laid out in chronological order with great background and photos.Heck,the cover alone is worth the price.

As a long time Rush fan this book is great! Lots of photos of everything Rush related. I even found a photo of a ticket stub to an Oklahoma City concert that I went to when I was 17 years old.One of the things I always enjoy is reading about the creative processes of the bands. This book doesn't disappoint... you find yourself in the room as songs are written and as the process of recording them takes place.Even though this book is a few years old it is well worth purchasing for the Rush fan and those wanting to learn about them.

Pretty good book covering the albums and music, does not delve very deeply into the guys.But the main text is in a size 6 or possibly smaller font, and very light against the pictures and background (which are quite interesting).Makes for a difficult reading experience.

Great book, but it is a bit outdated. She bases her advice on interest rates of 8%, and you'd be lucky to find any place to invest with interest rates over 2%. For this reason, I think the book is too outdated to be of significant relevance. I give 4 stars because it provides an overview of the framework for investing, and it is very motivational. Hoping for a newer book from Orman, but nothing as of yet.

I wish this book was available to me when I was 20 years old, I certainlywould have done some things different in my financial life. When we are youngwe are given all sorts of advise, on right and wrong, relationships, jobs, education etc.But No One tells you what to expect in later years and what to be aware of and what toplan for. Suze has done that and so much more in her book, "The 9 steps to Financial Freedom"Our relationship with money clearly determines the kind of life a person will lead. Apart frombeing told to save for a rainy day, no one ever explains why. Having grown up with the bare necessities and barely enough of that, I squandered my first pay checks on clothes, shoes, going to have my hair done in a salon and any other frivolous things a young women can squander on. at 18 years old I was working 3 jobs in 3 different places as a waitress and neversaved a cent. I was living on my own in NY renting a room and on my day off I would go to the salon and have my hair and nails done and dress to the nines for my evening out. I didn't sleep much in those days, after all I was young and beautiful and I was going to meet my prince charming somewhere. Then I got hit with walking pneumonia from working so hard, not enough sleep, poor eating habits etc. After being in the hospital for 2 weeks I came back to my rented room only to find out, it was no longer my room and they were holding my clothes hostage until I paid the back rent that I missed while I was in the hospital. Of course I didn't have it, because I always spent every cent I made and didn't even have a bank account. Luckily I wore uniforms at work because I didn't have any other clothes to wear, I slept in the back room of one of the places I worked for a while and saved enough money to pay what I owed on the rented room and get my clothes back. By then I was only working 2 jobs putting in a lot of extra hours and became a squirrel with my money, saving what ever I could from my meager pay and tips.I learned a life lesson at that time but still had no guidance, I did the best I could and as time went by I met my prince charming, opened a bank account got married and had a couple of children and explained why the relationship with money shapes your life, the good, the bad, and the ugly. So when I read Suze's book it was like my life's story only much more sound and in depth advise. I have read all her books, watched her dvd's and passed on the information she so eloquently put together. Through her advice I have a will, a health directive, living will and am in the midst of setting up my revocable trust. So yes I most defiantly would suggest that everyone read her books and tailor her advice to their own needs.

This book is a common sense approach to getting serious about managing finances to enable one to lead a more satisfying life. It is comforting to know that you have done what you can to avoid financial pitfalls. By the way, I had bought this book many years ago, and had found it to be very helpful. One thing in particular I had not done was to take out a long term care policy. Orman explained that one serious illness or disability could wreck you financially. I purchased this book for my fourty-something daughter, who has begun to do serious financial planning.

My friends who are financial planners tell me that they never meet anyone who does not know the right answer about what they should be doing with their money, but yet no one of these people acts on what they know.The author, financial planner Ms. Suze Orman, seems to be reflecting this perspective as she asks a series of probing questions about what your mental associations to money are. These questions are designed to help you free yourself from harmful associations that may be sabotaging your current thinking. For example, some people associate having money with loss of love (such as through seeing their parents divorce after one parent became much more financially successful).If you find yourself not acting on what you know that you need to do, you should buy, read, and change your thinking based on the questions in this book. This will be a five star book for you.If you already think you know lots about money and always do more or less the right thing, you need a different book (one that focuses on advanced techniques that you do not already know). This book will be a one star book for you, and I suggest that you avoid it.If you have to choose between The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom and The Courage to Be Rich (Ms. Orman's newest book), I would strongly advise you to read this one because it is a much better and more helpful book. You can read my comments on The Courage to Be Rich if you are interested.In any case, if you have ideas about money that make you uncomfortable, this is a good book to start with. Then you can graduate to books that will teach you more about WHAT TO DO NEXT. I think that you will find Rich Dad, Poor Dad to be very helpful.Have fun and be more comfortable! Her other books are basically the same theme, but I think that this one is the most cohesive, and the quickest read. She also has a spiritual side which adds a nice balance and makes her more accessible to people loathe the idea of focusing their energy on their money.

I don't know how I have taught reading to high school students without discovering this book before. It speaks to my particular passion - teaching struggling older students to read, understand what they read and enjoy what they read. I am writing and highlighting all over the pages of the book and have sticky notes marking many pages. I am on Spring Break and can hardly wait to get back and try some of the ideas with my most challenging class. It is absolutely never too late. I hate hearing teachers, especially special educators or reading teachers, say that students have to learn by third grade or they will never learn to read. That is a self-fulfilling prophecy that damages our students and creates new weapons for our legislators to use against teachers and students.

Along with What to do When Kids Can't Read by Kylene Beers, this book is a must have for teachers of reading. I would recommend it to any teacher, particularly working with adolescents, and I would include it on any reading syllabus. What makes the book most interesting is that it offers insight from someone who spent time in the classroom and reflects on these real experiences.

In this book, Chris Tovani invites you into one of her high school reading workshop classes. This reading workshop class is filled with students who are fluent readers, but who are also unable to comprehend what they read. Also, they have not elected to take the course, resulting in a room full of bored expressions and bad attitudes. The book begins at day one, and as you begin to read, you start to really feel sorry for Tovani, wondering how she is ever going to reach these reluctant students and turn them into better readers. But as she takes you through the class, and you read about each of her strategies, she makes it seem almost effortless. Tovani is able to connect with her students, and it is clear that they quickly gain her respect. You also learn that she herself was a "fake reader" until her 30s! I believe that this is a major reason why she is able to teach her students so successfully; she knows exactly what they are going through, and as a result, she is able to show them what really works. Tovani, a nationally-known reading consultant, continues to teach English and reading at the high school level because of this dedication to helping students.Comprehending what we read really is something that most of us take for granted, and it's a skill that is very difficult to teach. Tovani herself admits that for book reports, she used to select a very obscure book in the library, copy down what was in the inside flap of the cover, and then hide the book elsewhere in the library so her teacher would never find it! In the second part of the book (essentially the meat of the book), Tovani introduces various reading comprehension strategies, and she lets you take a look at how they work on real students in her reading workshop class. Some of these strategies include: setting a purpose for reading, knowing when you're stuck (and what to do when you are), making connections with unfamiliar subject matter, asking questions of the text, and making inferences. As you read the book, you get a glimpse of how students at first struggle with each of Tovani's lessons, then find success. The last section of the book contains actual tools (worksheets, diaries, etc.) you can provide to your students to aid them in their reading assignments.I would highly recommend this book to any middle or high school teacher in any subject area. It appears that too many of our students are struggling with comprehension, and it is imperative that we do all we can to make them better readers. Unfortunately, most teachers do not have the extra time it takes to teach students how to read well, and a vast amount of material must be covered in middle and high school. Yet, reading is a lifelong activity, and we must give students the tools they need to become better readers, and we need to make them responsible for their own learning. This book shows you how. It was a very quick and easy read, and even if you walk away with one new idea for your classroom, it will be well worth it--for your students and for yourselves.

I'm a reading teacher, and I can't put this book down! I highly recommend it for any reading teacher or any struggling reader. It explains so much about reading, and gives lots of techniques to help students. There are great resources in the appendix as well. My favorite part is the "Reading with Purpose" activity.

Literacy is very important in all subjects. If students don't understand what they're reading it's up to teachers to help provide tools that will help them. Tovani does a great job reaching to non English content teachers and gives great examples of how we can all help our students. My favorite take-away from this book is that reading comprehension becomes more difficult at the secondary level-that's when students need most help- ironically that's where a lot of teachers may have the "they can sink or swim" attitude. Tovani provides us with life savers in this easy to read and relate to book.

I love this book. The strategies are incredible and have helped my students. The only issue I have is that the strategies in the book are geared towards a full reading class. I teach English, my school doesn't offer a reading class for students who aren't English Language Learners. My students need to learn how to read more effectively, and it would be nice if there were more classroom tips that could be embedded in other curriculum. Most of these chapters are structured around a full lesson that builds on another.

Cris Tovani, herself once a struggling reader, provides some excellent advice. While not as good as Notice & Note: Strategies for Close Reading (but how many books are?), Tovani still provides plenty of good strategies for reluctant readers or those who read fluently but cannot decipher meaning.

Generally I'm fairly critical of this type of educational material, but Tovani's book is actually not bad. She offers some pretty useful techniques to help struggling readers at the high school level, and breaks down the strategies to target specific needs. The only thing that turned me off a little was that many of her stories of actual classroom experience seem fabricated. Take, for example, the story she tells of the student who asked "who is Virgil?" after they had been reading the Inferno in class for weeks and the student in question had already finished 3/4 of the book. Seems a little unbelievable, and might cast some doubt on the validity of the work. But these instances aside, I feel the book could be helpful to teachers of struggling readers.

A very good book. Research was thorough and presented in an interesting way. In reading other people's reviews for previous works when they downgrade the rating because of formatting or other errors I always got a little irritated. I guess I had been lucky and never really got a Kindle book that had so many errors that it hurt the quality of the book. This is the first time. So many formatting errors on the Kindle edition. You'd be reading along and in the middle of the page there would be an out of place footnote. Then a few out of place words. Then you wound up back where you should be. Exclamation points, quotation marks, asterix, unneeded spaces between words, space in words.... Very frustrating. The actual story. . . a five....the errors in formatting are just too numerous for it to go without a remark and a downgrade. Should be withdrawn, reformatted, and resubmitted.

This ebook was obviously published from an unfinished copy of the manuscript , because it is absolutely filled with typos. I'm a third of the way in and I've found at least one per page. And I'm reading on a Kindle iPhone app so the pages aren't long at all. There's even a very obvious misspelling in a chapter title. (Some chapters are written in dialect, but I'm not referring to those as they're obviously style choices. The chapter heading says "Mariage" instead of "Marriage.") Sometimes the mistakes make the dialogue unclear. When quotation marks and line breaks are omitted, it can be difficult to tell who is saying what without rereading entire conversations.The story is good this far, but if you're put off by poor punctuation or spelling, go for the paperback. Often final proofreading is done after typesetting, and some publishing companies cut corners by formatting pre-typeset drafts for the ebook editions. Then they don't bother having that proofread. Frustrating.

After browsing some of the reviews on here, I bought the kindle edition. The book itself is interesting yet has way too many grammatical errors to count on both hands and feet. The chapters themselves could have also been a little longer than a page. Not the quality of work I've expected from such a great author

Having lived in the Rochester area and remembered the times when the killings were going on, I wanted to understand more about Shawcross. However, the life story of one of the Watertown's victim's mother was irrelevant, boring and took up way too much of the book, to the point where it appears it was added as empty filler. The author's attempt to mimic the accents of various people was very poorly done and detracted from the story. Overall, this is poorly written book and so not worth any amount spent on it. I would give it zero stars if permitted.

Interesting but a little slow. It's a unique approach to documenting a serial killer, by interviewing relatives of the victims, and excerpts from psychiatric reviews of the killer. Not to mention, talking with love interests of the killer. I'm not sure how this could have been better written, but it lacked something to keep me turning pages. I'd pick it up from time to time and read a little, then put it back down again. I've read other books by Jack Olsen, and they were page turners for me. It almost seemed like a completely different author was writing this book. But all in all, it was still worth the read.

Grueling to read, extremely disturbing, a tradgedy of lives both serial killer and victims.I literally had to constantly take breaks reading this book, I found it so upsetting. My heart went out to little Karen and her mother who kept beating herself up with " if I'd only..".I know the pain she feels as I've lived it first hand in an incident that happened to my daughter at our church. It only takes a fraction of a split second for the unimaginable to happen.The author does an excellent job of telling Art Shawcross's story, almost TOO good a job as it's like a knife to the heart to read.To come to the realization of what a horrible job our parole, courts, and some psychiatrist's do for people like Art is unbelievable .The story of Art Shawcross is so unfathomable, that at times I felt I was reading something out of a James Patterson novel! I had to keep reminding myself that what I was reading really did happen. Then this realization shakes you to the very core of your being.

This book gives a detailed view of the life and crimes of Authur Shawcross. The book talks of his early life and then talks of his first kills, a young boy and a little girl. It's not a spoiler to say he was convicted and spent time in prison. On his release he began to kill prostitutes. This is all covered in detail often switching between characters , Shawcross himself, the police and the local prostitutes. It finishes up with a psychiatric analysis of Shawcross. The book is long and there is a lot of detail- maybe too much. My real reason for rating the book as 3 rather than 4 was the very large number of text to digital errors. At times these errors were not only irritating but confusing. I read a lot and I've been reading Kindle books for about 3.5 years and without doubt this book is the most error ridden I've seen - not the author's fault. It was actually well written.

First, there are errors due to the scanning process to convert the book from paper to ebook. Just try to think of them as amusing like with the Amazon Echo misunderstands you and answers strangely. As for the book, I was annoyed by the way every chapter is written as if it were actually written by one of the people involved in the case. It really made me lose trust in just how much was fictional and how much was accurate. And, dang, it can on and on about the family history of a person. I don't just mean how Shawcross was raised but the great grandparents of a victim that died ages before and had nothing to do with the story in the least. There were definitely times I just had to skip page after page because they were just useless. Otherwise, Shawcross is an interesting character but I can't say this book really did much to explain him. On the other hand, it appears nobody ever really figured him out.

This Nanda had a lot of coverage about interventions and rationales for interventions. It was very helpful. It was one of the better nanda's I've read.

This product is helpful but at first, if you aren't familiar with it, it can be tricky to navigate as it is literally just a reference guide (kind of like an encyclopedia for specifically nursing diagnoses). And the only other qualm I have is that the pages are very shiny/slick making it tough to read outside or in daylight due to the glare. Also impossible to highlight without smudging! Otherwise, good guide book!! It was required for class, otherwise I may have skipped this purchase.

I use this drug book for nursing school and for clinicals. I like that each drug has a lot of information (uses, drug class, contraindications, adverse reactions, route). I do not like that the drugs are listed only by the generic name. The index in the back of the book needs to have the generic name and the trade name listed. I bought this book 2 months ago and some of the drugs I'm studying in school are not even in the book.

Worked great for my CPNE. One of the evaluators even asked where I got it. Great resource!

Required for my nursing class. SUPER confusing to use at first it was frustrating. After using it for about 3 weeks I got the hang of looking diagnoses up and I find it helpful.

All I can say is I will cherish this book forever! It gave me that extra umph that I needed for my care plan when deciding a nursing diagnosis. The assigned book for the program is great but this book has a bit more to choose from.

I previously purchased the Interior Design in a Flash - flashcards when I took the IDFX, and I thought they were super helpful. Those flash cards were color coded to coordinate with the IDFX, IDPX, or material that was covered on both exams. When I saw these new flash cards for the IDPX were released, I was nervous the study material changed, so I purchased these too. They ended up being the same questions that were in the Interior Design in a Flash set, so I was disappointed I wasted money on these. Regardless, I think the materials covered in these flashcards was super useful in studying (especially in conjunction with the Interior Design Reference Manual). This set even came with binder rings, so they were so easy to take on the go.
