When i bought this book I thought there was a good chance that it would end up on the shelf to be read someday, but not just yet. However, when I began reading it I found it to be engaging and easy to read. The section on constitutional law I found to be especially interesting. The book is well organized and each section has a bit of history and actual court cases for use as examples. Highly recommended.

This is basically a lay person's law degree in a single, easy to read and understand volume. Mr. Feinman avoids the usual legalese and writes in a way that's actually understandable by the average person. He adequately covers every subject that most readers are likely to encounter. The best part: Even though it\s always wise to consult an attorney on legal matters, this book fully equipped me to ask the right questions of my attorney and to develop the best legal approach based on a sound understanding of the legal principles that apply to a particular situation. One of the best book investments I've ever made - A+++..

After carefully reading this beautiful work I can finally see my vision. I may one day move out of the back of this Asian nail salon and go on to fight elderly abuse. No more "Slippin Jimmy". I'm going legit!!! This book has changed my life.

This was the textbook for an introductory law class that I took as part of a Master in Legal Studies program (not a JD program, but a degree for average people who don't want to be lawyers but want to know about the law for work). My husband is an attorney and law professor. This book was enjoyed by both of us -- by me, whose day job is marketing, and by him, who sometimes has a hard time explaining legal concepts at ground level. He loved how concise and articulate Feinman was, while I loved that it allowed me to better understand what my husband does on a day-to-day basis and the greater purpose of our legal system. It's very easy to digest and would be a fantastic choice for anyone considering law school, or anyone who just doesn't "get" why the law is the way it is.

I finally completed by law degree after 5 long years of stop and start. A life-time goal achieved.Since now I want to take the bar exam, I need to begin "refreshing" myself on law issues all over again."Law 101" is a perfect fit. Well written, very detailed and most important, up-to-date with current case law all all civil, criminal and constitutional matters.I highly recommend the book to law students, licensed lawyers and even lay persons.

I'm currently an undergrad junior studying engineering and thinking of law school, and this book was amazing in that it not only explains the concepts in a clear way, but also goes into sufficient detail to get you interested and thinking about the law. It teaches you the basics of a wide range of laws, from tort/contract/property law to criminal law. It also uses actual cases to help readers understand how the law actually works, including its limitations. Obviously, this book is not a law school level textbook, but it's not meant to be one! It's meant for someone like myself (thinking of law school), and it does an excellent job at it.Also, I'm taking a "law course for undergrads" at Cornell this semester, and I can say for sure that this book is at a very similar level, in case anyone wants a comparison. There's a ton of overlap so it's definitely helping me in the class.

If you are a citizen of the United States, then the law of the United States affects your life in some way, shape, or form, even if you can't necessarily articulate in a comprehensive manner just how it affects you, and if you don't have a solid grasp about how it works.This is essentially a preliminary guide for non-lawyers and non-law students to more effectively think about, discuss, and navigate various legal issues that affect their lives and capture their attention. It's also a good read for those who are either planning to go to or just thinking about law school.

Great read for anyone interested in legal theory but without an overload of jargon or philosophical inquiry. Not too watered down either. I became a lot more interested in law after reading this as it exposes you to the more abstract and media friendly fields (such as tort and property law). I would say that I wish it had a section on corporate or patent law however.

Brandi Davis shares her glamorous life that people dream of but gain riches illegally, eventually, all goes downhill. I would have loved if she dug deeper (or expound on) and gave more insight of her experiences as a drug dealer's wifey, father-daughter relationship as a drug lord (is it similar to "The Coldest Winter Ever"), and prison life to a restored citizen. It does allow the reader to see the materialistic-superficial lifestyle of a drug dealer's girl and how she takes the bid for her man; but she does shares how those closest to her betrays her. This is expected in illegal activities--betrayal, illicit gains, jealousy, etc. And more importantly, when someone spends time behind bars, loses those they love and unable to do anything.Overall, it was a simple, short, and easy read. I appreciate Ms. Davis taking the time to share her life experience(s). I have two other books of the 4 part "High Price to Pay" series.*I became interested in the book because she was featured on female felons on Iyanla Vanzant show (OWN Network), and then saw her on BET Her's From the Bottom Up. Most of the episodes I saw on "From the Bottom Up", she has a very small segment on the reality show; however, she reminds me of my youngest sis in so many ways.Adrienna Turner, Author of "Miss the Mark Series"

I don't remember how I came across Brandi's page on instagram but I was interested in her story after seeing a few of her videos. Good book. I read it in one day. I just wish it wasn't so short and went more into detail.

I like everything bout this book. She learned from her mistakes and is willing to help others not to do the same things. Very well written.

Great read! I would recommend this book for every young girl/woman attracted to the illusion of dating a drug dealer. Brandi provides a realistic look into not only the lavish aspect , but also the grim consequences associated with this lifestyle. It is unfortunate to learn how so many women are incarcerated and sentenced to lengthy prison terms for non-violent crimes, often a result of the men they chose to love. While Brandi endured many trials and tribulations being locked up away from her son and family, it is refreshing to see her gain her freedom, and embark on a new journey. I wish her continued strength, courage, and much success!

Product arrived on time.I bought this for my daughter (4) because I believe it's never too early for her to learn about being safe. I like that it addresses a whole bunch of scenarios.

The book is written in first person, about a child playing different games. It uses a series of metaphors which I found to be confusing - as another reviewer noted, I can't imagine how a child would make a connection either.For example, "I am a snowflake" talks about how each child is different and an individual that deserves respect. "I am a plane" shows a child pretending to be a plane and it says how these have to check in with the tower about their plans, and that kids have to do the same thing with parents. "I am a tiger" - the child pretends to growl to warn other animals about trouble - then skips to a child yelling "call 911" if they need help. "I am a detective" shows the child observing others and taking notes and then skips to not allowing a child to keep secrets with grown-ups. "I am a boat captain" talks about a taking care of your boat and keeping away from rocks and choppy waters and then skips to how others cannot touch your private areas. Say what??The illustrations are cute but the "I am" stories are only marginally related to the rules and even distracting to a point. At the end of the book I asked my five year old what he had learned and he said, "I don't remember." Honestly, I had to look at the book to even remember what these pretend games were and how they were like the rules. Not good. The messages really do get mixed up and maybe even lost among all these pretend games.At the end, grown-ups will find a one page listing safety issues which was useful in discussing with my son when I realized the message in the book wasn't clear.I ordered this book after an attempted abduction of a seven year old in our town. If my child were ever in a difficult situation, I'd hate to see him trying to remember about tigers and boats and detectives, more so when these really have little to do with what I'm trying to teach him. I really don't think this book will help at all.

I second/ agree wholeheartedly with Justbooking's review. I wanted.a clear and simple message about personal safety/appropriate vs inappropriate interactions for my 3-year old, and the book doesn't deliver. It tries to do too much and loses focus in the process.

Using it to teach safety to 3rd graders! Great book with relatable metaphors to help understand safety rules

Excellent way to start the conversation with your children. I gave this to my daughter to share with her 8year old son. Ms Feigh has given us a great tool. Use it!

We loved this book when we bought the hard copy and are grateful to now have the e-book. These are real, effective strategies to help kids avoid danger... without terrifying kids of other people. Feigh recognizes that 'stranger danger' doesn't work, and gives real and practical alternatives that are easily understood by kids. Most importantly, the kids like reading the book and pick it up themselves. It wouldn't work otherwise!

This book is pretty good for young children and probably best for use at home with parents. I used it in an elementary school in several different classrooms (K, 1st and 2nd) and the kids didn't like it very much. The character pretends to be different characters (boat captain, dectective)and the kids didn't make the connection. The message is important, but I will be using different books.

I wish Susan Wise Bauer had been one of my college professors! One can only benefit greatly from her writing and dedication to helping promote understanding, education, and wisdom, and helping her readers to remember who we are and why. This book was definitely a welcome addition to my bookshelves. I first experienced her writing in three huge history books: The History of the Ancient World, The History of the Medieval World, and The History of the Renaissance World, vast compediums of knowlage and many facts and personages overlooked unfortunately by today's educators in many cases. These three books, along with The Story of Western Science, should be "must" reading for the student of history, science, and the mind of humanity. I am currently hoping she addresses the history of the Reformation World next....!

While I'm only just into the beginning, I like how she leads me through the classics of science. Although I've read some of them before, I have never read them as a chronological series. BYU used to offer a distance uni class that I didn't get around to taking before they got rid of it. This, so far, has been a great substitute, sans college credit.

The Story of Western Science covers major science advancements and the people behind them in topical and then chronological order. Each is explained to make it easy for the layperson to understand. The chapters end with links to pertinent writings and books (sometimes down to the edition) to read for more information about the topic. It would be very easy to turn into a science course for a high school student or for personal enrichment. I highly recommend this book!

The author covers an amazing sweep of history, boiling down the important points and making them clear and concise. She also provides references to the source material and discusses the different editions available.

This is a fantastic introduction to the people and the books that have created the modern world. Each chapter does a great job setting the context and introducing the major primary sources of the scientific canon. Just reading the chapters is an education in the history of science and ideas. An excellent resource for teens and adults who want to understand the context of science as it has been practiced for the past 2000 years.

Fun and informative. Guaranteed to appeal to the your inner science geek. Bit of a dry read if you’re looking for entertainment but great for those who want to learn about the history scientific study. Also provides some interesting trivia about the origins of the various branches of “modern” scientific study began.

This is a great reference book. I am very much into history and enjoyed Bauer's trilogy on world history, and saw that she also authored this. It can be read from front to back, but I think it is intended more as a reference for other great works. In sum, it is a good addition to any library.
